The Judgment Factory: Why We’re All Guilty of Living Life on Auto-Pilot

Discover why our fast-paced lives have turned us into judgment factories, and learn how to break free from assumptions to truly experience life’s authentic flavors.

It’s been ages since I last sat down with my thoughts and scribbled them on paper. Life’s been a whirlwind—traveling, meeting people, and forgetting to pen down anything. Sure, I tried recording myself, but let’s just say I’m better at talking than listening to my own voice. But now that the blog site is live and I’ve finally managed to wrestle some time, let’s make up for lost words.

Yesterday, I was on a call, and as usual, what started as a simple conversation somehow spiraled into the classic “life and its endless corrections” territory. Funny how that always happens, isn’t it?

The Human Judgment Factory

Ever noticed how we humans have turned into judgment factories? We assume, form opinions, and then stamp our judgments like it’s an Olympic sport. Let me ask you this: are you reading this with a clear mind? Or is your brain already running commentary, forming opinions about what I’m saying?

The truth is, our fast-paced lives have given us restless minds. We’re constantly chasing or answering things we don’t even fully understand. And the funniest bit? Ask anyone if they know something, and the reply is always, “I know!” But do you really?

The YouTube Nainital Syndrome

Here’s a little story to illustrate this. The other day, we were driving from Pune to Lonavala, cruising through the old highway and the winding roads of Khandala ghat. My nephew, out of nowhere, said, “This looks like Nainital!”

His mom and I blinked at him in surprise—when did this kid visit Nainital? Turns out, he hadn’t. He saw it on YouTube.

See the issue? Watching something on YouTube doesn’t mean you’ve experienced it. Knowing isn’t the same as experiencing. The flavor of life isn’t in the knowing; it’s in the tasting. If you don’t truly savor what you eat, how will you ever understand the nuances of flavor—or life, for that matter?

The Assumption Trap

But here’s the catch: most of us are busy assuming things before even giving them a chance. We create stories in our heads, jump to conclusions, and then, voila, we’ve formed an opinion that spreads faster than a meme. And these opinions? They’re often baseless and unnecessary, leading us to judgments that only complicate life further.

This compulsive behavior—the need to “know it all” or “prove it all”—is robbing us of real experiences. It’s like we’re assembling a puzzle with missing pieces and pretending it’s complete. And the result? Frustration, irritation, anxiety—all because there’s a gap between what we say we want and what we actually do.

The Gift of Not Knowing

The truth is, clarity doesn’t come from figuring everything out. It comes from accepting what is, here and now. Stop chasing every answer, every assumption, and just be present. Listen to what’s around you. Experience things fully, without letting your mind pre-write the script.

Because here’s the thing: life isn’t a race to prove you know it all. It’s a journey to discover, savor, and grow. So stop assuming, start asking, and let the present teach you something your screens never can.

And who knows? You might just find that the flavors of life are far richer than you imagined.

What assumptions are you carrying today? Drop them in the comments below—let’s start a conversation about breaking free from our judgment factories.
